MOVEMENT FOR Pregnancy & Post Natal

I have been teaching pregnancy and post natal classes and individual sessions for many years, having gained a specialist teaching qualification and I have continued with professional training, including Pilates for post natal Diastasis Recti rehabilitation.

Pilates & Yoga offer many benefits during and after pregnancy and the programme is designed specifically for each of the three trimesters and up to twelve months after the birth of your baby (pregnancy hormones can remain for up to twelve months post partum).

If you are receiving treatment from a Womens’ Health physiotherapist, I can work in conjunction with your practitioner to ensure your recovery is both safe and effective.

The programme is offered on a private tuition basis in Lindfield or in your own home for 1:1 or small group classes.

Modified mat Pilates, Reformer & HIP Pilates™️ & Yoga are beneficial and suitable after the first trimester and following your six week post natal GP appointment.

I look forward to being able to offer you an enjoyable and healthy pregnancy and following the birth of your baby.

Pregnancy Pilates

During this time, the aim is to maintain your existing fitness levels and adapt the exercises to support hormonal and postural changes during each of the three trimesters, avoiding exercises that may cause Pelvic Girdle Pain or Diastasis Recti (tummy gapping), in the post natal period.

“I was looking for a way to stay in shape during pregnancy and I love Karen’s class. I joined in my second trimester and have definitely noticed the difference when it comes to my posture, which in turn has had huge benefits for my back (which doesn’t hurt as much as many of my friends who don’t practice pilates!) I also sleep like a baby after a class so it’s certainly helped relax me too!”

Post Natal Pilates

During the post natal period the aim is to regain pre-pregnancy fitness levels, with the consideration that the post natal period can last up to 12 months after the birth of your baby.  Adaptations to exercise are therefore required to enable a safe and effective recovery from the demands of pregnancy and childbirth. Specialist exercises are provided if Diastasis Recti is diagnosed.

“Karen is an amazing teacher.  She is extremely knowledgeable, calm, focused and encouraging.  Without me even noticing the hard work she has helped me find strength and tone in my body that I didn't think possible after the birth of my second child.”

Karen is simply outstanding at making an exercise session pleasurable whilst encouraging you to work to your limit. She gave me my waist back after 2 children! What more is there to say....
